What’s one decision you’ve been delaying… avoiding… or overthinking?

Take a moment.

And more importantly, what’s the real fear underneath it?

Is it making the wrong choice? Disappointing someone? Losing control?

Because often, it’s not the decision itself that’s difficult. It’s the uncertainty that comes with it.

And right now, that uncertainty feels constant.

From shifts in the job market to AI and changing business landscapes, many of us are trying to lead while wading through fog expected to make decisions without having all the answers.

In this episode of Breaking the Chain, hosts Nathaniel Chapman and Terentia Browne unpack why decision-making feels so difficult in uncertainty, and how leaders can still move forward when the path isn’t clear.

When we don’t have answers, the brain looks for certainty, stability, guarantees and when those don’t exist, it goes into threat mode.

That’s why uncertainty can feel overwhelming. It makes you hesitate. It makes you second-guess yourself.

But here’s the reframe:

You’re not bad at making decisions. Your brain is trying to protect you from making the wrong one.

And that’s often what keeps us stuck.

Because when we delay or avoid decisions, momentum is lost. Teams feel it. Progress slows. And over time, waiting becomes more costly than getting it wrong.

So how do you move forward?

One idea shared was simple: focus on the next step, not the full picture.

Whether it’s using tools like the OODA loop, applying the 70% rule, or thinking through risks before they happen the goal isn’t perfection.

It’s movement.

Because clarity doesn’t always come before action. Sometimes it comes because of it.
