Purpose:
The purpose of this scholarship is to support and encourage aspiring writers who are passionate about science fiction and its potential to inspire scientific progress. By providing financial assistance and recognition to talented individuals, we hope to foster a new generation of writers who will continue to explore the frontiers of science through the lens of storytelling.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.
- Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in science fiction writing and its relationship with science.
- Applicants must submit a sample of their original science fiction writing, along with a brief statement describing their inspiration and aspirations as a writer. This should be no longer than 3000 words.
Selection Process:
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges comprised of experts in the fields of science fiction literature and science communication. Selection will be based on the quality of the writing sample, as well as the applicant’s demonstrated passion for the genre and its impact on scientific thought.
Award:
The selected recipient will receive a 1,000 GBP scholarship award to support their academic and creative pursuits. In addition, the recipient will have the opportunity to have their story published in a collection of short stories that will continue to raise money for this award.

To apply for the Robert Chapman Scholarship for Science Fiction Writing, please submit the following materials:
- Completed application form, including personal information and educational background.
- Sample of your original science fiction writing (maximum of 3000 words).
- Brief statement (maximum of 500 words) describing your inspiration and aspirations as a writer in the genre of science fiction.
